"I met Melanie for the first time over 8 years ago, and my life at that moment was literally at a pivotal point between turning it all around for Christ, or leading a life filled with selfish, worldly ambitions. I can remember her inviting me to "girls' night out" at coffee shops with other "bubbly Christian women," and I would always find some excuse not to go. When I looked at Melanie, or any other holy, Christian woman, it was a painful reminder of my impure and unwise decisions that seemed to magnify in my mind, and this was just too difficult to address. With every "No" to an invitation, a new invitation would always follow. Melanie never, ever took my "No" as a reason to stop inviting me places and kindly and persistently pursued a friendship with me. By the grace of God and her willingness to never give up on me, I finally took her up on an invitation; one that would drastically change my life forever. I moved into a women’s' home with Melanie and three other beautiful, Christian women. It was here, in this protected environment, that Melanie truly was my mentor. Whether that meant showing me how to dress modestly, or teaching me about pro-life issues and how I am called to make a difference in God's Kingdom, Melanie held nothing back from me. I continued to resist and rebel, but something powerful was happening in my soul. I was beginning to see that I could change and become a holy woman of God; that it was possible. Melanie always told me that if I could see myself the way that God or even she sees me, I would make such better decisions. How badly I wanted to see myself as she or even God saw me! Eventually, with much prayer, time, practice, falling down and getting back up, the Christian way of life became the only way of living for me. Never once, in the 8 years, have I ever fallen down and not seen Melanie’s hand reaching out to me to pull me back up. Our relationship has blossomed into a beautiful, holy friendship, and I can proudly say that this warrior for Christ, this woman of God, is my sister. Melanie has been for me time and time again the face of Christ when I needed Him the most and deserved it the least. She encouraged me to share my story and my testimony and trained me to speak on these important issues. Such love and willingness to build up God's Kingdom is a powerful testimony to God's presence among us, one soul at a time!
